What is a Certificate of Good Standing?

A Certificate of Good Standing is an official document issued by Companies House, the UK registrar of companies, confirming that your limited company complies with all legal filing obligations. All limited companies in the UK must file annual returns with Companies House. Failure to meet these requirements can result in penalties. However, if your company meets all legal obligations, it will be considered in “good standing.”

What is a Certificate of Good Standing?

You can request a Certificate of Good Standing from Companies House to verify your company’s compliance. This certificate will serve as proof that your company meets all statutory requirements.

Note: As of June 30, 2016, due to amendments to the Small Business, Enterprise, and Employment Act, Certificates of Good Standing no longer include information about shareholders, shareholdings, or the statement of capital.
